AIR CONDITIONING
The Heritage Playhouse is now in it's third year and every summer seems hotter than the last. However this torture will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to the Sunshine Coast Regional District - that means you! ..and private donations.. the GLHS is now in a financial position to have air conditioning installed.

Coast Climate Control will start work shortly and when SOPA begins in July we will all be cool, calm and not having to fan our heated bodies with our programmes!  If you would like to contribute to this  please make a donation to 'AIR CONDITIONING, GIBSONS LANDING HERITAGE SOCIETY' Remember, we
can give tax deductible receipts.
And not only will the Playho
use be the coolest thing in Gibsons but you'll be able to step out on to the back deck come rain, come shine and sip a little something and stay dry. Thanks to Gibsons Rotary and to the shrewd  managers of the GLHS we can now afford to put a sky lighted roof on the back deck! Onwards and upwards!! Ray Moscrip and Laurie Lacovetsky will be responsible for this latest addition to the Playhouse.

SHOWCASE OF PERFORMING ARTS

Showcase of performing arts (SOPA ) will take place between July  2nd to Jul 17th. At the Heritage Playhouse. The festival will begin with a gala night similar to the great success that we had last year...wine and food will flow....not to mention talent and the festival will showcase the best of the coast's dancers, musicians and thespians, and some off coast surprises. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity, please leave a message at 604 886 8998 and we will be delighted to get back to you.  Our calendar of events will be appearing in April.

TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED

As part of an on-going plan to improve production quality at the Theatre, the Directors and Kerry Mills (Technical Director) are making application to the B.C. Lotteries Corporation for a share in the available Lotteries money for specific items needed to make the Heritage Playhouse into a first-class arts and entertainment venue.

The application will designate which lighting fixtures, gels and spotlights are necessary to up-grade the older equipment. A decision was made to present a comprehensive application for lighting and sound items based on current needs, but with strong consideration for future requirements that would attract bigger and better clients for the Playhouse.

Said Kerry Mills, "I have a perfect-world wish-list in mind for lights and sound components based on my experience as Technical Director. Even if the Lotteries corporation approves only part of what we ask for, we'll be in a better position to offer high-quality sound and light."

Other musical and arts groups on the Sunshine Coast have recently had success with their applications for Lotteries money, so the Directors and Kerry are optimistic. An announcement will be made to the public and to Heritage Playhouse members as to the success of our venture.

Incidentally, if you know of used or well-priced components that are available on the Coast, please contact Kerry Mills at the Theatre.

BIRTHDAY

Yes, the Heritage Playhouse really is in its third year. It hardly seems yesterday that the grand opening took place. The renovation took place with generous donations from not just government but from many local individuals.

Many people do not realise that even though donors were generous the Gibsons Landing Heritage Society was still short of one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars before the Playhouse could open. To make everything possible a band of 15 people became guarantors for this sum and the Credit Union arranged interim financing. This debt has now dropped to sixty seven thousand dollars, but every month the GLHS has to pay approximately twelve hundred dollars to the Credit Union. No help for this comes from the Town of Gibsons, which actually owns the building, or the Regional district. If you would like to help pay off our debt please contact us. We rely on your generosity. We are a registered charity and can give tax deductible receipts. And....if you've got a birthday coming and you've got everything you could possibly want out of life...remember us!

VOLUNTEERS

U
ntil the playhouse is fully paid for, maintenance and operations of the Playhouse is handled entirely by volunteers… and we are always in need of more.

We need: Cleaners-every Wednesday morning to vacuum, mop, clean washrooms, foyer stage and seating area and downstairs...Anything to keep our theatre sparkling.

We need: Gardeners at all times to keep our grounds bright and tidy.

We need: People to donate yummy baking to sell in our concession during performances -- our only means at present to raise funds to maintain the theatre (until it is paid off!).

We need: People to sell coffee and goodies in our concession during performances.

We need: Someone to help our volunteer co-ordinator with phoning.

Teens to Seniors and Everyone in between

Contact the Playhouse: 604 886 8998 and leave a message.
