TALKING HEADS

On October 7th and 8th, Geoff Madoc-Jones and Colleen Elson performed two of the solo pieces from Allan Bennett's "Talking Heads" as a fund-raiser for the Heritage Playhouse. Geoff, who taught for many years on the Sunshine Coast is now a professor at Simon Fraser University, travelled from Coquitlam to support the H.P. project. Geoff still maintains many ties with the Sunshine Coast. Colleen performed a “A lady of letters” with  deft characterization. We would like to thank both of these people for a memorable weekend.
Prior to each of the three  performances, our President, Nest Lewis, invited audience members to join the G.L.H.S. As a result we gained several new members.

THE GRANT COMMITTEE

The Heritage Playhouse is celebrating its 5th anniversary and The Playhouse has become a success story as a venue for the performing arts. But that success, in financial terms, only covers the basic operating costs of running the theatre. Funds must be raised elsewhere for any new upgrades or additions to the building, e.g. new black curtains made for Playhouse, improved exterior lighting, a computer, a vacuum cleaner. The Grant Committee has been very busy this past year making applications for funding or partial funding to various organisations and businesses both on and off the Sunshine Coast in an effort to move ahead with these much needed upgrades. Private donations have been received as well.  A special thanks to the Sunshine Coast Regional District for their generous support.

SOPA
SOPA 2005 was successful in raising funds  for the  running of the Heritage Playhouse. The  G.L.H.S. executive plans to make Sopa 2006 the best yet. After all, it will be the fifth anniversary of this event.  We are  fortunate that  Gillian Wright, one of our new directors, has agreed to act as co-ordinator Gillian comes to us with a wealth of business expertise and  experience in helping to co-ordinate the Fibre Arts Festival this year.

Gillian is  also working on getting corporate sponsorship. She is planning on including more dance, a concert of light classical music and has been in contact with Shari Ulrich and Rick Scott of Pied Pumkin who just love the Playhouse and its piano. "Can I take it home with me?” teased Shari at their last performance.

AGM 2005

AGM was held Sept 05 in the green room at the at the Playhouse, electing the following to the board of directors

WEDDING AT THE PLAYHOUSE

We were delighted that Samantha and Chad were married at the Heritage Playhouse in August. The stage was decorated with a flower covered altar and the bride entered the stage by walking down the aisle of the Playhouse in a beautiful dress, looking as radiant as all brides should.  We wish them both every happiness in their future life together.

THANK YOU!
The GLHS board was sad to lose Lyle Carter from the board of directors.  Lyle was an active member of the board for several years, and a hard working member of the Sopa team. We wish the multi - talented Lyle all the best in his future endeavours.

MEMBERSHIP

Our Membership got a big boost this fall.  This is thanks to President Nest  explaining the  importance of members in our society—GLHS, and in the operation of the HERITAGE PLAYHOUSE.

Nest informed the audience who came to enjoy TALKING HEADS’ about our need for  new members and many, many more people joined immediately! Thanks to all of you who showed your support for the theatre—your membership card will be in the mail as soon as possible.
