GRANT'S COMMITTEE

The Heritage Playhouse and the Gibsons Landing Heritage Society is very pleased to now be able to move one more step towards completion of the renovation of the Heritage building.  With generous funding from the Sunshine Coast Regional District, the Vancouver Foundation, Driftwood Players and private donors, we are now able to purchase and install new "Blacks", curtains designed to fit our stage.  Having “Blacks” made-to-measure will certainly enhance the scope of productions that can be held in this multi-venue theatre.  We would like to thank everyone involved who helped to secure the funding.

WANTED FOR PLAYHOUSE

The little theatre that could and did and continues to do is heading into its sixth year of a coast wide recognised community use building.

The Heritage Playhouse has booked 51 events in the 2005-6 year, with approximately 650 hours of theatre usage.

We are pleased that the revenue from these events plus the income from generous donors, community grants and volunteer contributions has enabled the GLHS  to reduce our interim financing  as of April 2006 to the amount of $36,000 from the original amount of $150,000. Haven’t we done well!!.

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if 36 Sunshine Coast residents or groups could donate $1,000.00 each, so that we can get rid of the interim financing?

VOLUNTEERING

Ihave been volunteering at the Heritage Playhouse since it's opening. My efforts have involved ushering, (flushing and cleaning up the bathroom), taking tickets at the door and selling tickets for the performance, (dealing with ALL the people who have recently visited the bank machine and only have 20 dollar bills and don't understand why I am short of change) and the concession, (dealing with the same people who still don't have change for that $20.......I wonder what happened to the change they got at the door???). Despite my complaints I love the various jobs and I continue to come back. I love dealing with the people who come to the playhouse, and it never ceases to amaze me that there are still people who have not been there

There is always something different on at the theatre; movies, plays, dances, musical performances and comedy shows.

One of the perks of volunteering is I get to see as many of the performances as I want to. I do a lot of volunteering in the community and working at the Heritage Playhouse is my favourite.  I meet and deal with a huge variety of people (a lot of them with $20 dollar bills!!) and I get to practise my social skills. I can't do the tasks when I am in a grumpy mood and smiling and being pleasant is a real bonus. I highly recommend volunteering at the playhouse; you won't be bored and the shows and social contact are added bonuses.
